Comment (findagrave): Little is known of Richard Wright's origins. The only reference to his parents is by noted historian, William T. Davis of Plymouth who had access to local "gossip" and oral family history. He claims that Richard Wright was the son of William Wright & Priscilla Carpenter. ["Genealogical Register of Plymouth Families" by William T. Davis, Appendix, page 354 "WRIGHT... WILLIAM, in the text, came in the Fortune 1621. He m. Priscilla, d. of Alexander Carpenter, and had a son Richard."].
Robert S. Wakefield, in "Richard Wright of Plymouth, MA" (The American Genealogist, vol 59 (1983), page 165) argues against him being the son of William Wright and Priscilla: William's 1633 will makes no mention of a son Richard (MD 1:200-203) Richard's age at death (83 in 1691) translates to a 1608 birth, too early to be son of William and Priscilla, because Priscilla's age at death calculates to a 1598 birth (MD 15:213). William and Richard were more likely brothers or cousins.
In a 1637 deed, Richard Wright is called "taylor"
Richard Wright died in Plymouth 9 Jun 1691 (Plymouth Church Records 1620-1859, 2 volumes; I:271) His will, dated 8 Jun 1691, sworn 24 Jun 1691, names "my three children, Adam, Esther and Mary" (MD 4:165-7). Three sons -- John, Isaac and Samuel-- died, per probate records btw 7 Dec 1675 and7 Jun 1676, possibly in King Philip's War, although not named in George M. Bodge, Soldiers in King Philip's War. (Boston 1906)
