, England, probably born Great Waltham moving with parents to Hatfield Broad Oak. To Cambridge MA by 1633. One of 42 names in first entry in Cambridge records of town houses, house probably in present Brattle Square. chosen surveyor. Moved to Hartford probably following preacher Hooker (who advocated democracy rather than theocracy). On commission to plan move to Hartford (Newtowne) 1635/1636 involving 100 people and 160 cattle 2 weeks "through a hideous and trackless wilderness", they purchased land on the Ct. River from Indians. Founder of Hartford, various duties. Division arose after 1647 death of Thomas Hooker, lead to 2nd Church of Hartford, and settlement of Hadley MA. Andrew age65 sold his Hartford land 1659, by 1660 to Hadely where his house was the meeting of 28 new families (Hadley and Hatfield). Lots of history in the Andrew Warner book.
