Narrative
"According to www.whitmania.com, this may have been the martyr who was burned at the stake in 1572 in Ostend during the Inquisition for his fanatical preaching which enraged the officials of the Roman Catholic Church. Also, there are indications that the Whitmans may have changed their name from Wightman upon their arrival in the Colonies. This was sometimes done to elude there persecutors from, England." (ref possibly to Fox's book of Martyr's, edited by William Byron Forbush!)
