"The Bowker's of Scituate,Mass. and Maine are descended from a member of the Royal Court of King James I. His name was James Bowker. He was an accountant in Counting House; store-house of the King's Treasuries and the Crown Jewels. He was falsely accused of stealing a number of them and his reputa-tion and family name were ruined. In 1625,his two elder sons John and Edmund emigrated to America and settled in Scituate. His infant son James was taken to Sweden (hence the transla-tion to Buker) by a sister and a trusted family servant.
