No evidence as to origin or immigration. Original grantee of Newbury MA, 1639. His house was in what is now called Newburyport, on the southerly side of Greenleaf's Lane (now State St) leading to Watt's Cellar. Admitted a freeman by the General Court June 22, 1642. Poorer than most of his neighbors, for his whole estate was appraised at less than 96 pounds. He lived 14 years in Newbury, during which time his children had not sufficient nourishment. The rec shows that his Newbury house was conveyed to John Bartlett May 29, 1660 (book 3, p 177, Ipswich series).
